Binuryni:

Binuryni (lit. in our youth) is a support and information group for parents of special children.

Challenge: The Williamsburg community is very tight knit and tight-lipped. The reflexive tendency of parents of special needs children is to avoid seeking the necessary help and support. The challenge was to coax such parents out of their isolation and help them understand that they are not alone, and that help and information are available.

Activity: Schnitzler Associates helped identify and organize the parents of special needs children, and planned and ran events that featured popular lecturers, physicians, government officials and even entertainers. A helpline was launched which allows parents to communicate and receive relevant information to help facilitate their roles ad caregivers, and alleviate their stress.

Result: Over 100 pairs of parents are currently active participants. Results show that their quality of life has improved dramatically as a result of the support network that has been created.
